• Anticipating that I’d be bereft of an image by the end of the day, I resorted to capturing the vehicular joy of stationary traffic on the way to work this morning.

  • My gravel driveway makes for a pretty picture with frustrating regularity.

    Where is the hoe?

  • Briefly ventured into the garden to attempt to capture a macro shot of some trumpet lichen on a fence post.

How many people have genuinely said that before?

    Failed miserably.

Hence an image of some rain droplets on the Japanese maple.

  • As a retired AFOL*, I had the rare experience of finishing a new LEGO set today, which now sits atop a speaker in the man cave.

It possesses good heft, so shouldn’t topple off and turn into a hoover casualty when I play Godspeed You Black Emperor at modest volume.

*For the record, I voluntarily retired from an addiction which was neither conducive to my bank balance nor to the advancement of cordial living arrangements.

  • Spotted a TIE Fighter at the football today.

  • The hydrangeas have transitioned into their papery autumnal geometry.

  • The dog doesn’t enjoy being left alone.

    I don’t enjoy replacing doors.

The good lady doesn’t enjoy draughts.

    Equals: overdue DIY job.

  • We have a small person in the house.

    Barbie is transfixed.

  • Whenever I’m confined to the house, and seeking a daily image, I find myself drawn to the contrast and shadows offered by artificial lighting.

So apropos of nothing, other than the pursuit of this journal, here is an image of my bedroom ‘big light’.

  • Birds.

  • The water lilies are dying back, but there’s still some late season flowers.

Today, I netted the pond, ready for winter.

A statement, which if I overthink it, sounds either bourgeois or simply boring, or both.

Unless you’re a pond enthusiast, and don’t hire a gardener called Barnaby.

  • Late start to a new football season for the boy.

Lost 2-5, but didn’t breach any financial rules.*

*29th September 2026 : An independent Commission has found Manchester City FC guilty of all charges related to serious breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules over a nine-season period.

  • Plodding through my new book. Surrounded by old ones.
